Touchstone Proves Test-Driven Development Accelerates HL7 FHIR Adoption

We’d like to draw attention to this blog post over on David Hay’s site that gushes on our Touchstone Project and how well it supports test-driven development with FHIR.

Our relatively tall ships had collided on previous nights although, on this occasion, my smartphone overrode my body clock informing me that it was morning! Anyway, re-introductions over, I immediately posed the question…”I’d like to test my Terminology Server – what have you got for me” and received an instant response…the Touchstone Test Platform (Touchstone).

David Hay and Peter Jordan are both avid bloggers and members of the Health Level Seven (HL7) Clinical Genomics on FHIR – Innovative HealtFHIRhcare Board are strong advocates for the use, testing and implementation of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) specification. Both have recently partnered to highlight their unique experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD). Each has played an active role in accelerating the development and adoption of the FHIR standard. FHIR combines the best features of existing HL7 standards with the latest web technologies to make interoperable healthcare applications dramatically simpler, easier, and faster to develop. FHIR continues to generate strong support within the healthcare community and signals a desire to move beyond traditional health record formats like CDA, CCD, and C32, toward streamlined XML and JSON representations coupled with lightweight RESTful services

To their great credit, AEGIS was able to set up my account, provide a quick user tutorial and respond to issues (including one tiny glitch with a test script) throughout the day. In a room packed with over 120 participants, this was no mean feat!

We certainly appreciate Peter’s kind words and would love to talk to you too about how Touchstone can accelerate your own FHIR implementations or how our interoperability experts can help you overcome the technical hurdles you might be facing.
